Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery

Inverted nipples are a common occurrence and often a source of embarrassment. They may be developmental or acquired. Examples of the latter include infections, surgery or very rarely may be a presenting sign of breast cancer.

Nipple inversion may be constant or intermittent. It may affect one or both breasts.

Although mild forms of inverted nipples may be treated with external suction devices, the most reliable form of treatment is surgery. Professor Malata uses a number of nipple inversion corrective techniques based on the severity of your condition. Frequently however, the ducts have to be divided especially in patients in whom breast feeding is not an issue or in patients with recurrent inversion of the nipple.

As in any cosmetic surgery, there are benefits, risks and the final results are not guaranteed. The chance of complications following correction of inverted depends on the type of operation and other factors such as your general health. Professor Malata will explain how the risks apply to you. Detailed postoperative instructions will be discussed during consultation and a procedure-specific handout given to you by Professor Malata.
